Grandmother taught me
everything I know:
how to observe the world around me
and also the world within.

Long walks together
in the warm summer sun,
hunting for hidden herbs
that could cure all sorts of ills.

Evenings by the fireplace
comfortable and cozy,
listening to stories of the trickster:

He taught me how to be human,
even if he was
a little mischievous
and foolish.

The moral,
my grandmother would tell me,
was to learn from his mistakes,
rather than make my own.
