What to do when life throws a DETOUR

This summer I am working on the fourth revision of a diary I keep while going through cancer. Each day I will share one rewritten entry. My goal is to have the fourth rough is now complete. Over the next five days, I will be sharing my last five entires. Where I go and what will I write after that? Stay tuned to see!

Day Three Hundred Sixty-Three

Detours: long roads taken
to avoid a more treacherous route,
or visits to somewhere else along the way.
They teach flexibility.

First I must decide
what to avoid in order that
I find a better place to visit
along my way.

Second, I must Eliminate
anything that does not get me to
my dream destination.
Keep finding alternate routes around detours.

Third, I must Take My Time.
Start slow and awkward
Learn and get used to the new terrain
in order to end up on autopilot going fast and free.

Fourth, I must outweigh my options.
when faced with opportunity, or challenge,
decide which choice will take me closer
to my desired goal?

Fifth, I must understand where I’m going.
keep my eyes upon
my desired destination
at all times.

Last, I must give myself permission
to readjust as needed.
Nothing is going to be perfect
or go according to plan.
