Preventing Down Days

This summer I am working on the fourth revision of a diary I keep while going through cancer. Each day I will share one rewritten entry. My goal is to have the fourth rough draft completed by August 15th. All rights reserved, but feedback welcome.:)

 

Day Two Hundred Thirty One
Preventing Down Days

 

On those days
when I feel
unfocused, foggy,
and down,

I have developed
coping skills
to deal with
the down days:

Go to bed and wake up
at the same time
even on
the weekends.

Give myself
and hour or two
to meditate, to reflect
replay the day and revise.

Things that require mental focus
get done in the morning,
more tedious, body movements
saved for the afternoon.

Try to keep the clutter cleared out,
a place for everything
and everything in it’s place, always in
the same place.

But most importantly,
I forgive myself and move on.
It’s how I treat myself when they happen.
With kindness or cruelty?
