A Free Public Service Announcement:

This summer I am working on the fourth revision of a diary I keep while going through cancer. Each day I will share one rewritten entry. My goal is to have the fourth rough draft completed by August 15th. All rights reserved, but feedback welcome.:)

October shouldn’t be the only time for Breast Cancer (or any type of cancer) awareness.

Day Fifty Nine
How Did You Know?

How did you know
you had cancer?
I often get asked,
so here is a forecast:

I thought I’d have to have
a lump or a bump,
but instead
my breast just got plump

and hard as rock
and there are other signs:
like the nipple retracting,
and the skin showing lines.

That look like an orange peel,
or there could be discharge
from the nipple,
and things becoming enlarged.

Of course lumps and bumps
are too warning signs.
Please, head my call,
dear friends of mine!

If you notice any
of these changes,
look at your schedule
and rearrange a

time to meet with
a doctor for detection
finding it early
the best form of protection.
